Belgium Claims Victory at IKF Beach Korfball World Cup (Africa) 2026 in Egypt

The sun-soaked beaches of Hurghada played host to an exhilarating edition of the IKF Beach Korfball World Cup (Africa) 2026, which concluded yesterday on July 4. Teams from across continents brought high-energy mixed-gender beach korfball action to Egypt’s Red Sea coast, showcasing the sport’s unique blend of skill, strategy, and athleticism in the sand.

Belgium emerged as champions, defeating strong competition in what proved to be a thrilling tournament. Hong Kong China secured a well-deserved silver medal in second place, while Hungary claimed bronze in third, marking impressive performances for all podium teams.

The event featured intense pool matches and knockout stages under not always ideal beach conditions due to the wind.

The Belgian squad demonstrated exceptional teamwork, defensive solidity, and attacking flair throughout the competition. They faced tough challenges, including a Day 1 encounter against Hungary that ended in a 1-1 draw resolved by a shoot-out in Belgium’s favor. Belgium also powered past Zimbabwe with a convincing 2-0 victory (10-2 / 9-1). Their consistent excellence culminated in a strong final showing to claim the title.

Hong Kong China delivered standout performances, advancing through competitive matches and proving their growing prowess in beach korfball. Reaching the final highlighted their tactical adaptability and endurance in the demanding beach format.

Hungary impressed with resilient play, building on recent momentum from other beach events. Their third-place finish adds to their rising profile in international korfball.

This first official IKF tournament in Egypt emphasized korfball’s core values as a mixed-gender sport, with teams combining speed, precision shooting, and tactical passing on the sand. Spectators and participants enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere in Hurghada, supported by the Egyptian hosts.

Looking ahead, this African edition serves as a key event in the 2026 international beach korfball calendar, following the Asia edition earlier in the year and preceding the Europe edition scheduled for July 11-12 in Lisbon, Portugal.

Congratulations to all participating teams, organizers from IKF Africa and the Egyptian Federation for Recreational Sports and Games and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and volunteers who made the event a success. Beach korfball continues to grow as a dynamic, accessible, and exciting variant of the sport.

Hungary makes history winning the IKF Beach Korfball World Cup (Asia) 2026 in Bangkok

An additional extraordinary beach event has concluded in Bangkok! Ten teams from three different continents were taking part in this year’s IKF Beach Korfball World Cup (Asia) 2026. The capital of Thailand was hosting this event from 2 to 3 May, which ended with Hungary beating Chinese Taipei by 9-8 in another historical, tight, and exciting final.

Hungary has achieved its first gold medal in beach korfball, a discipline in which it has performed admirably in recent years. This includes the bronze medal it won at the IKF Beach Korfball World Cup (Europe) 2025 and the 4th place at The World Games in Chengdu last year.

The podium was completed by Chinese Taipei (silver) and Czechia, who won against Australia in the bronze medal match.

TWG2025: Beach Korfball teams confirmed

The countdown to The World Games 2025 (TWG2025) in Chengdu, China, has officially begun, there are now less than 200 days until the opening ceremony, and the International Korfball Federation (IKF) can now confirm the teams that have secured their spots for the korfball and beach korfball competitions at The World Games! 

In the beach korfball discipline, eight top-performing teams have secured their spots at TWG2025, : Poland, Chinese Taipei, Netherlands, Hungary, Belgium, USA, Australia, and China.  Based on the set qualification criteria, Netherlands and China qualified in April, at the WBKC 2024, while the other teams qualified through the IKF Beach Korfball World Ranking. The stage is set. With teams from four continents represented, each bringing their different styles of play, korfball fans should expect the unexpected as these teams battle it out in the sand in Chengdu. We cannot wait to find out which of the teams will take home the Gold medal!

The World Games are a unique multi-sport event that celebrates sports outside the Olympic programme, bringing together thousands of athletes from across the globe to compete at the highest level. New World Rankings for Korfball and Beach Korfball Released

The International Korfball Federation (IKF) published on January 14th the updated world rankings for korfball and beach korfball, taking into account the points earned by teams during 2024 events and the basic points allocated during the year. These rankings are essential for shaping the future of international competitions in both disciplines.

Beach Korfball Ranking

The newly released beach korfball ranking holds particular significance as it will determine the teams qualified for the Beach Korfball competition at The World Games 2025 (TWG2025). With beach korfball gaining prominence as a dynamic and fast-paced version of the sport, the ranking system ensures that the highest-performing teams secure their place in this prestigious event.

The IKF Beach Korfball World Cup (Asia) 2024 will take place from 6 to 7 December 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The Korfball Association of Thailand (KAT) will host this event, which it’s also a qualifier tournament for The World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China. All matches will be played at Hua Mak Indoor Stadium in Sport Authority of Thailand.

The city of Nador is hosting the 1st IKF World Beach Korfball Championship that is taking place on August 19th and 20th at Corniche Beach. Thirteen korfball countries are participating in this prestigious event: Belgium, Cameroon, England, France, Hong Kong China, Hungary, India, Morocco, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Wales and United States of America.

The teams have been divided in two groups to play a preliminary round, and the final ranking of each pool will decide which squads qualify to play on the second day for places 9 to 13 (after the late withdrawl of team Cameroon) and 1 to 8.

The award of this event from the IKF comes months after an agreement that the Moroccan Association for Korfball and the Mediterranean Youth Association made with the Ministry of National Education to develop korfball in schools. Younes Cherfaoui (MAK president): “We are very proud to be able to organise the IKF World Beach Korfball Championship and to present the beautiful city of Nador to the korfball world. The event comes at the perfect moment to showcase korfball and really use it as an accelerator for the further development of korfball within Morocco.”

To give all teams the opportunity to play broadcasted matches, the allocation of the fields has been slightly adjusted in the previous announced schedule. In the coming days, the LOC will inform trough which channels these live streams will be provided.

The first ‘IKF World Beach Korfball Championship’ will be held on 19 and 20 August 2022 in Nador, Morocco.

The successful continental Beach World Cup events in Europe and Asia over the last few years have demonstrated that there is a real appetite amongst the nations for Beach Korfball. The IKF is now delighted to extend the format to the global stage by organising a World Championship for the first time. In a close bidding race with the Royal Dutch Korfball Association (KNKV), who as always presented a very tempting bid, the IKF Council decided to grant this prestigious event to the Moroccan Association for Korfball (MAK).

Jan Fransoo (IKF President): “As well as the beautiful Summer weather, the excellent facilities, and professional organisation, the positive impact that our mixed-gender sport has in Moroccan society has been particularly key in our decision to award the organisation of the first World Beach Korfball Championship to the city of Nador in Morocco. We are looking forward to working closely with the organisers in making this a great event with a positive impact.”

The first ‘IKF World Beach Korfball Championship’ will be held on 19th and 20th August 2022 in Nador, Morocco.

Subscription is open to all countries around the world. The invitation and entry form was sent to all National Federations in January.
