Hong Kong host of IKF Beach Korfball World Cup (Asia) 2019

The IKF is happy to announce that the Hong Kong China Korfball Association will host the first edition of the IKF Beach Korfball World Cup (Asia) in March 2019. This is a great step forward in the international development of beach korfball. With this event added to the IKF Competition Calender, two Beach Korfball World Cups will be organized in 2019.

The first IKF Beach Korfball World Cup 2019 will take place from 9-10 March in Hong Kong.

Although this will be the first edition of the IKF Beach Korfball World Cup in Asia, the national korfball federation of Hong Kong has plenty experience with organising successful beach korfball tournaments. Starting in 2000, the federation has annually organized a beach korfball event for both seniors and juniors. Apart from the first edition, the tournament was organised at Repulse Beach every year. Due to its popularity among tourists, this venue served as the perfect place to promote (beach) korfball in Hong Kong and beyond. That participants of that tournament were mostly from Hong Kong, although occasionally, teams from Macau and Taiwan also entered the competition. The first edition of the IKF Beach Korfball World Cup (Asia) is therefore organized by an experienced host, and will be of a more international character than the previous tournaments.

There will be two categories at the IKF BKWC (Asia); Open Group and University Group. The Open Group participants will compete for the IKF World Cup Title, whereas the University Group pool will be an official IKF Recognized competition.

The participants of the IKF BKWC (Asia) 2019 will be: China, Hong Kong China, Chinese Taipei , Thailand and Japan. The matches in the Open Group will be played on the first day of the event. The University Group matches will be played at the second day of the tournament.

OPEN GROUP (5): China, Hong Kong, Japan, Chinese Taipei and Thailand.

UNIVERSITY GROUP (4): China, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei and Thailand.

Changes in the IKF Beach Korfball Rules as from 1 July 2018

With the experiences of the IKF Open European Beach Korfball Championship 2017 in The Netherlands as a reference, including the feedback of the IKF Beach Korfball Committee, the IKF Playing Rules Committee has come up with a number of changes in the IKF Beach Korfball Rules.

Probably the most prominent change in the rules is the installation of a two-point zone. However, it is highly recommendable to closely review the whole document and check all changes. In a later stadium the IKF will present a document with the most important difference between ‘Beach korfball’ and regular ‘Korfball 8′.

Read it here: IKF Beach Korfball Rules (1-July-2018)

Participating countries IKF Beach Korfball World Cup (Europe) 2018

The participating countries for the World Cup (Europe) in Belgium are now known. The event that will be played 11 and 12 August in Blankenberge will consist of the following countries:

Seniors: Belgium, Czech Republic, Cameroon, England, France, Hungary, Morocco, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Switzerland, Wales.

Under 19: Belgium, Czech Republic, Hungary, Morocco, The Netherlands, Wales.

The pool composition with the match schedule will be drawn in the coming weeks, taking into consideration the results of last year’s ‘Open European Beach Korfball Championship 2017′. This is good news for Portugal (seniors) and Hungary (U19), both ending second on the overall tournament ranking just behind the Netherlands.

Registration for IKF Beach Korfball World Cup (Europe) 2018 now open!

All 69 IKF recognised National Korfball Federations are invited to participate in the next IKF Beach Korfball World Cup (Europe) 2018 that will take place in Blankenberge (Belgium) from 11 to 12 August 2018.

This event will contain both a Senior and Under 19 category. IKF A & B countries are entitled to subscribe two teams per category, and C-D-E countries only one. Remember that beach korfball is played in a 4 against 4 format, and the maximum number of players per team is 6. So be aware! Because during the tournament it will not be allowed for a player to play in more than one team.

It is up to each National Federation to decide how to select the National Team. This can be done by a standard selection process, but for example also by picking the best (club) team of a National Beach Korfball Championship.

To be able to participate countries must send a complete filled entry form to the IKF no later than 12 March 2018 to officially subscribe for this tournament.

More detailed info and documents has been sent via e-mail to all National Federations.
